# VTOL VR

Thank you to the community for creating the following program which converts VTOL VR Tactical Replay Files into ACMI Files for Tacview!

The following was working for us when we tested it in April 2026:

#### Download and Installation

Install **VTReplayConverter** from:

<https://github.com/LSantos2003/VTReplayConverter>

From the right panel click `Releases` (currently 1.1.6 from 2025-11-28)

<https://github.com/LSantos2003/VTReplayConverter/releases>

download and run `Setup.msi`

#### Converting Files

Launch **VTReplayConverter** from the Start Menu

You should see a list of recordings in the left of the window.

`Open Replays Folder` opens a file explorer window to the folder `%APPDATA%\Boundless Dynamics\LLC\VTOLVR\SaveData\Replays\` which contain autosaves such as:

```
C:\Users\vyrtu\AppData\Roaming\Boundless Dynamics, LLC\VTOLVR\SaveData\Replays\Autosave 1\
	info.cfg
	heightmap.pngb
	replay.vtr
```

Click on `Open Tacview Folder` to open an explorer window

`%APPDATA%\VTReplayConverter\TACVIEW SAVES\`

where you will find the corresponding `ACMI` file which is readable directly by Tacview.

`Autosave 1.acmi`

#### Terrain and Meshes

**VTReplayConverter** automatically creates the appropriate elevation map and 3D models in:

`C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Meshes\`

`C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Custom\`

The acmi files directly reference the 3D models, so no `XML` database is required:

```
0B1,T=0.0367671028128249|0.282803244579361|1640.01843261719|15.52469|9.593469|-51.68436,Name=B1-1 F/A-26B (diddy),Type=FixedWing,LongName=B1-1 F/A-26B (diddy),ShortName=B1-1 F/A-26B (diddy),Color=Blue,Shape=vtolvr_FA-26.obj,Coalition=Allies
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://raia-software-inc.gitbook.io/tacview/flight-simulator/vtol-vr.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
